Serendipitous Networking
Heard the one about the chap who joined a networking group and within two weeks had secured nearly £17,000 of new work? I have, because I was there when it happened.
Admittedly things like this don’t occur every day and this particular event was a happy collision between time and space but it does point to the role of serendipity in networking.
•Serendipity: The effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something else entirely.
In the case of our happy chap, he was looking to raise his profile, gather local knowledge and establish strategic alliances but the very fact of turning up presented him with the ultimate in ‘happy accidents’.
Networking is predictable only in its unpredictability. That’s why I turn up because ultimately. . . you never know .
